A 15% discount for an early guilty plea entered in the Local Court, while at the lower end of the Thomson & Houlton range, does not of itself establish appellable error; the ultimate question remains whether the sentence imposed was warranted in law. Exchanges during submissions do not form part of the sentencing judge's reasons and cannot be relied upon to demonstrate error in the reasoning process.
