A non-compete clause prohibiting employment with a business 'in competition with' the employer's group extends to free suburban newspaper publishers competing for the same advertisers as the employer's metropolitan publications, even where the publications differ in scale and distribution method. An employer seeking to enforce a non-solicitation of customers restraint must demonstrate that the employee had sufficient customer contact to constitute the 'human face' of the business; a managerial employee with limited direct customer contact may not give rise to a protectable customer connection interest. Staff connection is a protectable interest where the employee held a leadership role, even absent protectable confidences. An employer's decision to isolate an employee from confidential information during a notice period does not extinguish the employer's right to enforce a subsequent non-compete restraint.
