Section 49 of the Acts Interpretation Act 1954 (Qld) applies to the approved information sheet required by s 213(5) of the Body Corporate and Community Management Act 1997 (Qld), so that substantial compliance with the approved form suffices. The absence of a specific 'substantial compliance' provision in s 213(5) (unlike s 213(4)) does not displace s 49. Attachment of a superseded version of the information sheet that differs only in inconsequential respects (department name change, version number, commencement date) constitutes substantial compliance and does not give rise to a right of cancellation under s 213(6).
