A committee of an incorporated association that proceeds to an election of membership candidates without complying with constitutional notice requirements, and applies a fixed attitude of refusing all applications without considering individual merits by reference to the association's objects, engages in conduct contrary to the interests of members as a whole for the purposes of s 61 of the Associations Incorporation Act 1985 (SA). The committee is entitled to scrutinise the bona fides of applicants and to insist on constitutional compliance, but must consider each application individually on its merits.
