The risk of parole cancellation remains a relevant general sentencing consideration even where the parole period has expired and cancellation has not occurred. Rehabilitation efforts undertaken while on bail, including volunteer community work, are capable of mitigating sentence even where the offender has an extensive criminal history and offended while on parole. However, offending while on parole coupled with extensive prior convictions precludes a wholly suspended sentence for dishonesty offences of this nature.
