Where a co-offender's sentence is reduced below the appropriate range solely to protect the welfare of the offenders' children, the other co-offender whose sentence falls within the appropriate range cannot claim a justifiable sense of grievance from the resulting disparity. The merciful disposition in favour of one parent does not entitle the other parent to an equivalent reduction.
