Where a jury acquits on some counts and convicts on others in a multi-count sexual offence trial depending on the same uncorroborated complainant, the acquittals may render the guilty verdicts unreasonable if there is no rational basis to distinguish the quality of the complainant's evidence between the counts, particularly where there is lengthy unexplained delay in complaint and no corroboration. A trial judge should not direct the jury to consider counts in a prescribed sequential order.
