A testator's pension or social security entitlements payable to a widow cannot be taken into account to reduce the obligation to make adequate provision from the estate, at least where the estate is sufficient to meet competing claims. The standard of living during the marriage is a useful yardstick but not a ceiling on provision, particularly where the estate is substantial. A widow is not entitled to the matrimonial home where it greatly exceeds her reasonable accommodation needs and constitutes a disproportionate share of the estate.
