The appropriate sentencing range for low level trafficable quantities of cocaine and heroin (2-200 grams) after the repeal of s 16G of the Crimes Act 1914 (Cth) is a head sentence of between six and nine years imprisonment, updated from the five to seven year range in Wong and Leung. Combined discounts of more than 40% for plea of guilty and assistance to authorities should very exceptionally, if at all, be granted where there is no evidence the offender will serve the sentence in more onerous conditions than the general prison population.
