The Crown has no obligation to call expert evidence on matters that are not elements of the offence, even where the accused contends that the absence of such evidence (here, expert evidence on the psychological effects of sexual abuse on musical performance) means the jury could not reasonably convict. The standard of 'beyond reasonable doubt' remains a subjective standard for each individual juror, consistently with Southammavong and Walters v The Queen. Verdicts on alternative counts may be reconciled by reference to the differing elements of the charges.
