Where a sentencing judge transposes sentences between counts, the proper course for the Court of Appeal is to quash the sentence and re-sentence under s 568(4) of the Crimes Act 1958 (Vic), rather than attempting to correct the record. An offender who acts as a true informer regarding other persons' involvement in other offences is entitled to a sentencing discount even where the assistance did not greatly advance police investigations or lead to a conviction.
