The parity principle does not require an appellate court to reduce a sentence to match an inadequately lenient sentence imposed on a co-offender where the appellant's sentence is already as lenient as could sensibly be imposed. An offender's position in a hierarchy of co-offenders is not determinative of sentence length; the court must examine the offender's actual role and the degree to which their actions were pivotal to the operation.
