Acquittals on some counts of sexual offences involving the same complainant do not necessarily render guilty verdicts on other counts unreasonable, where the acquittals are explicable by reference to specific evidentiary weaknesses on those counts (such as inconsistencies in detail, uncertainty as to dates, or availability of defence evidence). A prosecutor's improper comment during trial does not cause a miscarriage of justice where the trial judge has directed the jury that counsel's statements are not evidence and the accused was able to give his account of events.
