An employee wrongfully dismissed without notice may recover damages not only for lost remuneration during the notice period but also for the lost opportunity to seek alternative employment from a position of employment. Damages for disappointment and distress may be recoverable for breach of the implied term of mutual trust and confidence where the object of the breached term was to prevent harm to the employee's professional and psychological interests, falling within the fifth exception in Baltic Shipping v Dillon. The Addis v Gramophone Co Ltd line of authority is confined to damages for the manner of wrongful dismissal itself and does not preclude recovery for breach of other contractual terms.
