A solicitor convicted of attempting to pervert the course of justice by counselling a witness not to give evidence will be struck off the Roll of Practitioners, notwithstanding mitigating personal circumstances including psychiatric vulnerability and an abusive relationship, because the seriousness of the offence — committed in the course of professional practice — is inconsistent with the privileges of continued practice and the maintenance of public confidence in the profession. Suspension is not an adequate response to such conduct.
