A discount of 5% for assistance to authorities is appropriate where the assistance was provided a year after arrest, consisted of intelligence only with no prospect of arrests or prosecutions, did not include future assistance, and was not entirely truthful. A starting point of approximately 17 years 10 months for a trusted 'middle man' overseeing the importation of 10.01 kg of pure methamphetamine (13 times the commercial quantity) is within the available sentencing range. The R v Wong and Leung guideline table is of limited assistance in determining sentencing range given the High Court's criticism in Wong v The Queen.
