A sentence of 12 years imprisonment with a serious violent offence declaration is within the permissible range for an offender who pleads guilty to multiple counts of rape and indecent dealing involving penile penetration of very young children across multiple victims, even where the offender has no prior sexual offending history. The absence of commercial distribution of child exploitation material does not lessen the criminality of the underlying sexual offences. A factual error by the sentencing judge that could not have materially affected the result will not warrant appellate intervention.
