A juror's voluntary publication of a book about a trial does not waive the prohibition on receiving evidence of jury deliberations, because the prohibition serves the broader purpose of protecting the integrity of the administration of justice, not merely the protection of individual jurors. In a fresh evidence appeal, the thoughts of jurors as to how they might have reacted to evidence not placed before them are irrelevant; the Court of Criminal Appeal must make its own assessment. Examination of a witness regarding compliance with an order to produce is limited to testing compliance and does not extend to obtaining evidence for use at a hearing.
