A sentencing judge's failure to provide sufficient particularity in assessing objective seriousness (merely stating above or below mid range) is an error of process, but does not of itself take the appellate court into the realm of resentencing. The error must be shown to have affected the outcome. Sentences for child sexual assault offences that are severe but consistent with standard non-parole periods will not be found manifestly excessive.
