A guilty plea entered freely after an adverse pre-trial ruling on severance cannot be treated as provisional and withdrawn on appeal merely because the accused believed prospects of acquittal were weakened. Later offences for which an offender has already been sentenced may be taken into account in sentencing for earlier offences, as relevant to recidivism risk and rehabilitation prospects. A further appeal against conviction is incompetent where an earlier appeal has been dismissed on its merits.
