A total effective sentence of seven years' imprisonment for three counts of rape and one count of unlawful imprisonment committed by a first offender who pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, made full admissions, and demonstrated genuine remorse was manifestly excessive having regard to current sentencing practices for rape in Victoria as identified in Hasan v The Queen. The Court noted that current sentencing practices for rape may be subject to upward revision following a forthcoming Crown appeal.
