A total effective sentence of 3 years' imprisonment for three counts of indecent dealing with an 8-year-old stepdaughter (including forced masturbation and passionate kissing) was upheld as appropriate. Good antecedents and personal circumstances carry diminished mitigatory weight in child sexual offences involving breach of trust. Two comparator cases are insufficient to establish a sentencing range, and individual sentences from comparator cases cannot be selectively extracted without accounting for totality and other considerations that affected those sentences.
