The parity principle, while not confined to co-offenders charged with the same offence, requires examination of both the objective circumstances of the offences and the subjective circumstances of each offender. The fact that offenders were uncovered in the same police investigation does not, without more, make them co-offenders for parity purposes. Significant differences in age, criminal history, conditional liberty status, motive, and role may negate any justifiable sense of grievance.
