The parity principle applies to co-offenders charged with different offences arising from the same criminal enterprise, as confirmed by the High Court in Green v The Queen, but formal identity of charges is not required. Where all offences form part of one episode of criminality, the degree of accumulation must reflect the totality principle, and excessive accumulation may be corrected on appeal even where individual sentences are not themselves excessive.
