An appropriate head sentence for production of methylamphetamine for personal use by an addict, even where committed in breach of probation, may be significantly less than the five to six year range applicable to commercial production. Where the sentencing judge accepts non-commercial production, comparable sentences for possession of significant quantities of the drug provide a relevant benchmark. Significant cooperation, demonstrated rehabilitation, and production solely for personal use may justify a suspension point below the usual one-third mark.
