A sentence of 18 months imprisonment with parole after six months for a single count of entering a dwelling and assaulting the occupant under s 419(4) of the Criminal Code is within the sentencing range where the offending involves vigilante conduct, persistence (returning to the dwelling), threats to kill, use of weapons, and offending in company, even where the offender is young, has no prior criminal history, and has good employment prospects. The comparable range for home invasion offences of this character, drawn from Brelsford and MAB, is 18 months to two years imprisonment with parole or suspension after some months.
