An extension of time to appeal against conviction on a guilty plea will not be granted where the delay exceeds eight years, sentences have been served, and the applicant's claims of duress and expectation that the plea would be rejected are unsupported by the evidence and contradicted by the applicant's own contemporaneous instructions. Events occurring after the entry of a guilty plea cannot as a matter of logic affect the efficacy of that plea.
