An order refusing to extend the period for service of a writ is interlocutory, not final, requiring leave to appeal under s 17A(4) of the Supreme Court Act 1986 (Vic). Unexplained inadvertence as to the expiry date of a writ does not constitute 'good reason' for extension of time for service. The overarching purpose in the Civil Procedure Act 2010 (Vic) does not assist an applicant whose own delay has impeded the just, efficient, timely and cost-effective resolution of the dispute.
