When imposing aggregate sentences under s 53A, sentencing judges must consider the criminality of each offence individually and cannot impose uniform sentences for offences of disparate criminality. Obtain benefit by deception offences should be grouped by the amounts involved rather than by the accounts into which funds were deposited. Money laundering offences that involve merely transferring fraudulently obtained funds to purchase property (without concealment) fall within the 'highly technical' category and warrant sentences wholly concurrent with the underlying fraud offences. Restitution does not warrant a separate quantified discount but is properly treated as an expression of remorse. The question whether mental disorder affects objective gravity or only moral culpability post-Muldrock remains unresolved.
