A sentencing judge must give full weight to the utilitarian benefit of a guilty plea even where the plea did not reduce the length of a trial on other charges. Observations by the Court of Appeal that current sentencing practices should be reviewed, and pending Director's appeals on that question, provide no basis for a sentencing judge to depart from or qualify the weight given to current sentencing practices. A trial ruling on tendency evidence has no relevance to whether conduct is an aggravating feature for sentencing purposes.
