While aggregate sentencing under s 53A does not require indicative sentences to deal with concurrence and accumulation with the specificity required under Pearce v The Queen, an indicative sentence that clearly infringes Pearce principles reveals error pointing to an excessive aggregate sentence. A sentence imposed by the CCA for very similar offending, even where the offenders are not co-offenders, stands as a strong guide to the appropriate range.
