For a serious assault in a domestic setting involving a sustained and vicious attack causing significant injuries (including facial fractures), a head sentence of two years' imprisonment is plainly within the proper sentencing range, even for a first offender with good rehabilitation prospects. Suspension after eight months (one-third of the sentence) is appropriate where mitigating factors are balanced against the seriousness of the offending and the need for general and specific deterrence. An applicant cannot resile on appeal from an agreed schedule of facts accepted at the sentencing hearing.
