A protracted assault committed in breach of a domestic violence order, followed by repeated contraventions of that order after being charged, warrants a sentence of imprisonment notwithstanding significant mitigating factors including early pleas, no criminal history, psychological conditions, rehabilitation efforts, and payment of compensation. Immediate parole release adequately accommodates rehabilitation prospects in such circumstances. R v Hollis [2020] QCA 7 is not a comparable yardstick where the offence was not a domestic violence offence, was not committed while subject to a domestic violence order, and was not accompanied by repeated post-charge contraventions.
