Where conduct constituting a separate offence is also an aggravating feature of a principal offence, the close connection between the offences warrants less, rather than greater, cumulation to avoid double punishment. A sentencing judge must take great care not to treat the same conduct as both an aggravating feature of one offence and as warranting significant separate punishment and cumulation.
