Where a child complainant's evidence is contradicted by unchallenged independent evidence, contains numerous internal inconsistencies, and is unsupported by expected corroborating evidence, the appellate court may find the guilty verdict was not reasonably open to the jury notwithstanding the jury's advantage in seeing and hearing the witness. Where evidence ruled cross-admissible is the subject of a successful appeal, convictions on the charges to which that evidence was cross-admissible must also be set aside and a retrial ordered because the possibility that the jury used the impugned findings cannot be excluded.
