In complex cases involving unusual features, lengthy account periods, and irregular debits and credits, bare assertion from personal knowledge verifying a schedule prepared for litigation is insufficient verification of quantum under r 23.03(1)(a) of the Supreme Court (General Civil Procedure) Rules 2005 (Vic). Supporting business records and primary documentation are required. Section 64 of the Civil Procedure Act 2010 (Vic) requires a court to consider referring a matter to trial where there are unusual features, disputed facts, and related claims on foot, even if the s 63 threshold might otherwise be met.
