A final judgment entered on a cause of action exhausts the court's power to enter any further judgment on that cause of action in the same proceedings; liberty to apply cannot be used to alter the substance of a money judgment. A breach of natural justice in the making of a judgment is not cured by a subsequent application to the same judge to set aside the judgment, particularly where the correctness of the judge's own handling of the matter is in issue. UCPR 59.10(5) is to be construed purposively: proceedings are not exempt from the time limit merely because the orders sought do not explicitly include setting aside a decision, if the grounds on which relief is sought would have the consequence that the decision should be set aside.
