A sentencing judge may refer to the quantity of drugs found in a cache to which the offender had access for the purpose of assessing the offender's role and level of trust within a drug syndicate, provided the judge does not sentence the offender by reference to that quantity. Evaluative findings about an offender's relative role compared to co-offenders are reviewable only on House v R principles. Unsworn self-serving statements made by an offender to an expert carry very little, if any, weight at sentencing.
