An offender who could have offered to plead guilty to the charge ultimately faced at an earlier point in time, even where the Crown case was reformulated, may receive less credit for the plea than one who pleaded at the earliest opportunity. In parity assessments, a higher position in the hierarchy of a criminal enterprise and greater personal benefit derived from the offending can justify a higher sentence than that imposed on a co-offender who trafficked a greater quantity of drugs but occupied a lesser role.
