An inability to afford legal representation does not justify indefinite delay in commencing an appeal; when it becomes apparent that a person cannot afford or obtain a lawyer, they must pursue the appeal without one. An aggregate sentence of 11 years and 6 months for 14 counts of indecent dealing (maximum 7 years each) against three child victims over six years was upheld as not disproportionate to the overall criminality.
