Where a sentencing judge finds a causal connection between an offender's psychiatric condition and the offending conduct, it is insufficient to confine the relevance of that finding to a finding of special circumstances affecting the non-parole period ratio. The finding must also be taken into account in assessing moral culpability and in moderating the weight given to general deterrence. Failure to do so constitutes error vitiating the sentencing discretion.
