The double punishment principle from Pearce v R requires more than overlapping elements between offences; it requires that the offences arise from a single act or episode. Where offences are separated in time and place, even by very short intervals (here, approximately one minute), and involve different conduct, the principle does not apply and partial accumulation of sentences is permissible.
