A head sentence of six to seven years imprisonment is within the appropriate range for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, where the offending involves police pursuits, passenger overload, substantial distance driven dangerously, and repeat offending. Where a discretionary serious violent offence declaration is made, the sentencing judge may ameliorate its effect by imposing a head sentence at the lower end of the range and ordering concurrent sentences for other offending.
