Where individual sentences for related aggravated burglary and grievous bodily harm offences are ordered to be served concurrently, there is no basis for concluding that double punishment has been impermissibly carried over into the total effective sentence. Two home invasions on the same night do not necessarily form part of a single criminal episode for the purposes of the one transaction rule, and cumulation of sentences for each invasion may be appropriate. Total effective sentences of 9 years' imprisonment for two planned home invasions in company with weapons, involving gratuitous violence and grievous bodily harm, are at the top of the range but not unreasonable or plainly unjust.
