Tendency evidence of child pornography possession is admissible to prove a sexual interest in adolescent girls, but images must be limited to those with direct probative value and the more inflammatory material excluded. Even where tendency evidence is expressed at too high a level of generality, the proviso may apply if the remaining evidence is strong. Inadvertent provision of unedited transcripts containing inadmissible material to a jury does not necessarily occasion a miscarriage of justice where the trial judge gives an immediate corrective direction.
