Where an offender is sentenced on multiple charges of different character, the sentencing judge must separately assess the gravity of each charge; an undifferentiated assessment of gravity across charges of markedly different seriousness may constitute appealable error. A significant disparity between the sentence imposed on the giver and receiver of a secret commission may raise a reasonably arguable breach of the parity principle.
