The Markovski sentencing range of 11 to 13 years imprisonment on a plea of guilty for substantial trafficking at a relatively high level applies to trafficking in cannabis and methylamphetamine, not only to cocaine and ecstasy. The decisions in R v Gordon [2016] QCA 10 and R v Thornbury [2017] QCA 284 did not establish a more lenient range. A confession extending the known scope of offending (AB considerations) warrants meaningful discount but does not necessarily reduce a sentence below the Markovski range where the overall criminality, including weapons offences on bail, justifies a sentence within that range.
