Section 71(1) of the Sentencing Act 2017 (SA) does not permit a court to order home detention following revocation of a suspended sentence; the power is confined to the original sentencing court imposing a sentence at first instance. The transitional provisions in Schedule 1, Part 2, Clause 2(1) of the Sentencing Act 2017 apply to revocation of suspended sentences imposed under the Criminal Law (Sentencing) Act 1988. The question whether a court may order home detention for a new sentence imposed at the same time as revoking a suspended sentence was left open.
