A warning under s 13A(12) of the Evidence Act 1929 (SA) that refers to 'special arrangements' in the plural, given in close proximity to mention of a court companion, may implicitly encompass the court companion and satisfy the statutory requirement without express reference to it. The proviso may be applied even where proof depends on credibility assessment and the appellant denied offences on oath, provided the evidence overwhelmingly establishes guilt. The totality principle has little part to play when sentences are imposed under s 18A of the Criminal Law (Sentencing) Act 1988 (SA).
