Proof of service by post does not require evidence that an envelope bore a stamp or was individually franked, nor that it was deposited at a post office or post box. Evidence of an internal mail collection system culminating in handover to an Australia Post driver, combined with evidence that a specific letter was placed in the outgoing mail tray, is sufficient to prove posting even where the mail collector cannot identify the specific letter. Previous authorities on service by post do not prescribe binding requirements of proof applicable in every case.
